NOW Can We Eat Lunch?

Starbucks, missed bathroom cues, and a husband quietly starving because the recording was going too well.

Ken was moving with purpose. I just did not know whose purpose yet.

Apparently, home is just the place where we do laundry and maybe eat once or twice before leaving again.

Yesterday, on the way to Oklahoma City, we were recording our current Detours case and we were kind of on a roll. In Ken’s brain, we were working. Recording. Getting all the things done.

Then the second we turned off the microphones and camera, he looks at me and says, “NOW can we eat lunch?”

Like I had been starving this man for the entire drive.

He could have said at literally any point, “Hey, can we stop and get something to eat?” But I think he knew the recording was going well and didn’t want to interrupt it.

We did make a Starbucks stop, though. Ken gets out of the truck and basically runs inside to get my coffee. Honestly, I was a little surprised because he just left me sitting there. Didn’t ask if I wanted to go in. Didn’t ask if I needed anything.

When he came back out of the bathroom, I’m still sitting in the truck and I said, “You do realize you’re not the only person who had to use the bathroom?”

He apologized, sat down, and waited while I went inside.

Oh, the joys of being on the road.

Every day isn’t some huge adventure. Sometimes it’s Starbucks, missed bathroom cues, a husband quietly starving because the recording is going too well, and another few hundred miles together.

But we get to spend all that time together. We get to work together, travel together, and do this ridiculous life together.

And honestly, that’s a win in my book.

Probably, occasionally, even in Ken’s.
