Our Last Night in Colorado Springs

Dinner inside an airplane, without the overhead-bin fight or the small matter of leaving the ground.

Our perfectly unusual final stop in Colorado Springs.

For our last night in Colorado Springs, we went to The Airplane Restaurant—because apparently eating inside a regular building wasn't interesting enough for this trip. Ken wanted to eat inside an airplane, which I have to admit was a pretty cool idea.

Now picture dinner inside an airplane without fighting for overhead-bin space, fastening a seat belt, or wondering whether we'd make our connection. So, did we do it? Absolutely.

If you don't know yet, flying makes me a little anxious. Who knew that eating inside a plane would trigger the same anxiety? Thankfully, I got over it rather quickly.

After we ordered our food, Ken got a steak and I got an All-American burger with sweet potato fries—probably the best meal we had in Colorado Springs.

Of course, we took the opportunity to sit in the cockpit. Since I never drive, I took full advantage of the moment and became the pilot while Ken got to be my co-pilot. We pushed a bunch of buttons and flicked a ton of switches. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience.

It was the perfectly unusual final stop before turning the trip toward home—and exactly the kind of place that belongs in a Road to Us travel story.

Colorado Springs, you were good to us. ❤️
